Part Visibilty option greyed out

Anonymous
Not applicable
I am using Inventor 2009.
The problem is with my IDWs. I can no longer turn off the visibilty of individual parts of an assembly in a given view.
In the browser toolbar, I am normally able to right click on any part listed under the assembly and toggle the visiblity of the part on or off in that view. Suddenly, the option is greyed out.
Selecting by part priority within the view, then right clicking also has visibilty greyed out. I can select by edge priority within the view and toggle visibilty for lines, but this is tedious and time consuming.
I have tried new drawings and other assemblies, and the problem remains.
Please help.

Edit the view, and uncheck the associative design view rep option.

Excellent. That worked. Thank you.

Why wouldn't this be unchecked by default? What is the reason for this option? Why would someone want it checked?

Because you are supposed be doing everything - I mean setting everything up in the model.

I didn't mean to imply that drawings were just tacked on as an afterthought, or that Autodesk grudgingly had to admit that people would still want to put stuff on paper. I really didn't.

It used to be unchecked by default, and was changed
in 2009.    Please note that we'll remember this setting AS YOU
SET IT ON FORWARD-CREATE (not on edit).

If you dig through the NG, there was a very
contentious thread where many of you argued that we change the default to be
checked (this would have been 2-3 years ago).
