Hi,
I can't believe nobody has asked this, but I haven't found the answer in 1/2 hour of searching. Everybody wants to know about opening a newer version file in an older version of inventor. I want to know the converse: I have inventor 2018 - can it open older version files. For instance, can 2018 open 2015 files? This is a concern I have because if I make a bunch of designs with 2018, and then upgrade in 2019 or 2020, I wouldn't want to be unable to open and edit my designs from 2018. I guess I could try to find someone with older inventor files, and try to open them to see, but thought I might as well get a definitive answer here so I know how things work.
Thanks

I attached one of the docs of the file below.
Do you see the file Attached here?
If the web forum will not allow you to Attach, then first right click on the filename and select Send to Compressed (zipped) Folder. Attach the resulting *.zip file here using the on-line web forum.
Below is a Doc among many that were created on Inventor 2005 which I can't open

I am not familiar with http://viewer.Autodesk.com
You should be able to see the files in the Autodesk Viewer.
What do you need to do with these files once opened?
The file you posted was not created in "Inventor 2005"; as @Frederick_Law pointed out, Inventor releases were not named by years until 2008. In fact, this file was created in Inventor 5 SP1, and last updated in Inventor 5.3, dating from 2002 (I know this because that was the year I started using Inventor, and it was version 5.3). The "Creation Date" field in iProperties (Inventor metadata) is 1/31/2002.
As others have mentioned, it opens just fine in Inventor 2024.0.1, but so far you haven't told us what you expect to happen after it's opened.

Hi! Files saved from older Inventor releases can be opened in later Inventor releases. That is the standard behavior. If it does not work, it will be a migration bug.
You may install Inventor and run Inventor Read-Only model to see the file without a subscription license.
Many thanks!
