Opening a Step file

More an observation than anything, I've noticed that if I open a STEP file in Inventor I get a dialogue box asking if I want to open as parts or composite etc. If I select multiple STEP files, there is no dialogue, the parts just open as .iam. Why the difference?

I don't know why they chose to do it like that, when they could've opened a dialog for each as easily.. But from what I've seen from Inventor, it'll stick to the options.

So if you setup the options for the first step file, and then open the rest, it -should- handle them the same way. 

To answer your question, I believe it's a design choice, although I don't know enough about programming to be certain.

I didn't select any options, just multi selected files & opened. Would it remember options from a previous Inventor session?

Just tested. 

It will save these options between sessions, it seems. Might not if I restart the computer though...

I opened a group of 4 STEP files yesterday & again they opened without any prompting even though my PC had been powered off over the weekend. It still opens the dialogue if I open only 1 file which, I guess, makes sense otherwise you could never access the opening options.
