why cannot developers keep a simple extrude offset option in inventor? are they trying to lose money or something? This feature is so basic and important and I cannot believe a company into this business for so long cannot put it to be user friendly.

How simple do you need it? This one is equivalent, but not as complex as NX would have it.

@Gabriel_Watson I'm guessing that the poster is using 2021 or 2022, where the new property panel is used for the Extrude tool.  The Distance from Face function is still there, just not as obvious as it was in 2020 and before.

After choosing the profile, the From field defaults to the sketch plane.  Now the user needs to click in the From box and select the desired face as the From surface.  Once you're used to it, it's not difficult or click intensive, but it's also not easily discoverable for users of previous versions.

@SBix26 when trying to select values for the "from" field in that menu, it appears I am only to select faces. I can't seem to enter an offset value, could you explain how this would be done?

An offset from the 'From' face is not possible with the Extrude tool.  Possible workarounds include creating an offset surface to use as your 'From' face, or extrude/cut the required space after the Extrude operation.

Hi! Indeed, Extrude Offset Start by Distance isn't available on Inventor. As Sam mentioned here, you need to create the offset surface first and select it as From reference. If this workflow is critical to you, please try Fusion 360. It has the exact workflow you need.

Many thanks!
