No Content Center Files when Resolving Link for Unresolved Reference

[Inventor Professional 2023, Windows 10]

When I open a file given to me by a co-worker, I cannot resolve references to missing parts. These parts are standard Content Center parts. In the Resolve Link dialogue, the Content Center Files directory shows as empty, seen Fig 1.

However the parts are available in when I look in the Content Center Editor, seen Fig 2:

The issue is seemingly that the Resolve Link dialogue expects .ipt files, but the libraries only show as .idcl files in file explorer. Is there a way to view the library when resolving links, or perhaps export the library to .ipt files? Would much appreciate assistance resolving this issue.

Other info which may be relevant:

In Project settings > Folder Options > Content Center Files = [Default]

All libraries are active in Library Configuration:

Application Options uses default library directory:

autodesk_help_4.png

.idcl files in content center directory:

If I can provide additional info please advise.

Thanks!

Global libraries (second screen) are program resources that enable designing.

Project libraries (third screen) are resources used in the project, used in project models.
This is the most important thing when you get a project from other people.

When someone hands you a project, they must use the Pack and Go feature.

This will pack all the project files and save the structures and link between the files.
In turn, you need to unpack this project and activate it (project file to load settings and bindings).
Then you will get all the design elements.

The assembly files are looking for the content files. This files folder would be located in different places on each computer if not using a networked drive. The files folder is the physical location of files created from the Content center library .idcl. The libary stores the data used to create part files. Check that folder path on your machine shown as default which means it is taken from application options. The files were likely left on your co-workers local drive. You need to pack and go the original assembly/drawing and use include content center files. This will gather up the files from the various family folders in the content center files folder.

In your last image the path for content center files is incorrect. It should end in content center files not libraries. Libraries is set in the content center tab. See this post for centrally stored libraries. It's optional to have centrally stored or local but the libraries and files are complete different.

Hi!

The content center files only exist as a "real file" when you use and save each component at least one time in your computer. If they are missing is because you never used those components, so they don't exist yet in your Content center folder in your documents inventor's folder.

You can solve this in several ways:

I suggest two:

1-Ask your colleague to copy the content center folder (usually at DOCUMENTS->Inventor->Content Center Files->R2023(or other versions you use).

Then paste your colleague folder in yours same location.

Then, open your assembly, and it should find the missing components.

2-If it's a couple of components, you can insert in the assembly the files missing, on open, skip all, and insert the missing components using "place from content center"

  • save the assembly, Then close it
  • open again the assembly; now, the missing elements will appear
  • delete the components you add at the beginning.
