New install and background seems to wash out objects being drawn on screen

So, I successfully installed Inventor Pro 2014 and open the software to begin test-driving it.  I choose to start a 2D creation and begin drawing random lines on the screen.  I see the callouts and the mouse is obviously trying to draw lines, but nothing shows on the screen.  I cancel out to redo it and it asks me if I want to save.  Interesting to me, since I never sot to actually see anything.  I toyed with some options involving background colors and struggled with changing default line colors since I am new to this software (AutoCAD user since 1988...) but I never find a workaround to be able to see what I am doing on the screen.  After a few times of shutting down and reopening, I decide to resinstall and go the same result.  I showed it my son, who uses this at school and it baffled him too.  In fact, he's the one that suggest I do the reinstall.  Any thoughts from the pros??

You might want to try a tutorial to see if it works as it should.

Thanks, and I have done some searching on Youtube and have bookmarked several I intend to watch this evening.  It just struck me as odd when My son who is a regular user looked at it and said, "I have no idea, dad".

That's a good call on the service packs.  I'll look into them this evening.

in inventor, go to tools > application options > hardware tab > & try downtuning the display settings to "compatibility mode" and restart inventor.

i run in this mode on just about any computer i use. it fixes many graphics problems. still make sure you run on your hardware / video card & not your internal software (motherboard) graphics and like the guys have mentioned, do your video driver and service pack updates.
best regards,

Ok, I finally got a chance to get back on my Inventor issue.  I installed the service packs (sloooow process), and set disply setting to compatibility mode ... and voila!  I can NOW see what I am starting to draw.

I did not , however, update the video driver but will take care of that in the very near future.

Thanks for the help.

You will probably be able to turn off compatibility mode after you update your graphics driver.
