Nesting DFX Parts in an Drawing

Greetings

I always check for updated answers to questions asked before. I use a Waterjet to cut parts created in Inventor. I bring the parts into a drawing as a DXF and the sheet size is based on the sheet steel I am using. What is the best way to nest the parts so that they are all close together.  As of now, I move the parts into position but this is not accurate and time-consuming.

If this can't be done with Inventor, is there a FREE software program that will work with Inventor Pro 2018?

Do you have access to AutoCAD, it should make working with the files and creating a nest. We use "Columbus" from Esab to do our nest. It also has the ability to do 'Common Line" cutting. It will merge two parts to use the same common line to cut & split the parts.

Not a lot of "free" software for NC cutting as this has been the domain of commercial work. Someone is getting paid to cut the parts, so someone should get paid for the software.

I agree that someone should get paid for commercial work. I am checking into MyNesting (I'm just about ready to download the program). I looked at the short tutorial video and I like it - very simple for DFX files. You can play around with nesting options and when you are happy press a button and pay for it. You have payment options but the basic plan is very reasonable for what the software does.

Thank you for the information. I just purchased a program called "MyNesting" and it does everything I need for a very reasonable price (about $5 US per export which can be many).

I know this post is slightly old now but just wanted to put it out there in case you were still interested in a nesting solution within Inventor. Nesting Utility 2019 is now available for Product Design and Manufacturing Collection subscribers.
