Need Help with model & blending with a profile.

I have a 5 tooth sprocket. I am needing to add the chain link profile to it and let it tangent out to the faces of the teeth, while keeping the flat area at the same height from the center.

I have tried everything I know of. From lofts, sweeps, different extrusions and deriving it from the chain.ipt. I can get close but still can not get to work no matter what way I go about it.

I have attached the chain link & sprocket if you would need it. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Hi!

That should be an assembly: the sprocket and the chain links, mounted in an assembly.

I was needing to do it prior to making my assembly of the chain and sprocket.

Why?

What's the purpose?

You want to insert the chain solid to edit the sprocket?

You can:

  • mount an assembly and create references between parts
  • Create a derived part to import/insert an external solid inside the ipt.

etc, etc.... it depends on the final goal.

Hi! I am not 100% sure I understand the issue here. In the Casting part, you could create a dummy chain link surface body as a reference to model around it. Or, you can insert both the an assembly as Carlos mentioned, and constrain both properly. Edit the Casting part in place -> Copy Object -> pick the chain link -> output as Surface -> check associative. This is the so-called Adaptive Body workflow.

Many thanks!
