Need help ASAP. Need to change the view orientation in a large assembly

Hi All:

I made a decently heavy assembly in Inventor 2014. When I tried to make a 2D drawing, I realized that even though my Front View was set correctly as per the required view of the assembly, the origin was aligned as a Back View. So, when I selected front view in 2D drawing, I got the actual back view.

I guess, the view I have set as a front view, is interpreted or seen by Inventor as a back view. I have attached a picture highlighting the problem. I need to rotate the axis or the assembly such that the actual front view and my desired front view of the assembly are aligned properly.

Thank you.Untitled.jpg

The easy way is to simply ignore coordinate icons and names like Top, Front....

Set the view in the assembly to your desired base view orientation.

In the drawing use the Current View to define your base view.

In some release of Inventor (not sure if it was 2014 or 2015) functionality was added that you can set your view as desired, right click on the View Cube and redefine your Front View.  I have no idea if this effects drawing view names though, as I use above and don't worry about view names.

Or

if your parts are properly and fully constrained - you can unground the base component and add assembly constraints to the XY, XZ and YZ planes to orient the assembly as desired.

Oops, I don't see any Grounded components in your assembly tree?  How does that work?

Thanks for your quick reply. I am aware of this workaround, but at my work, some things need to be done in a certain manner. While I was creating the assembly, everything was fine. Then I guess, someone must have played with it and screwed up everyting. I reall need to set the orientation the correct way.

I edited my response above. Are you really working without any grounded base component?

What you saw was not a complete list of components. The base plate was grounded.

Anyways, I used assembly constraints to align my view and it worked like a charm. Thank you so much!

You should submit pictures of your work to the weekly Friday Pics thread - looks like cool stuff.
