My first copy design of an assembly in Inventor 2023

I am trying to do my first copy design of an assembly in Inventor 2023.

I looked around for some tutorial, but I can't find the answer I am looking for.

The copying of parts and assemblies sounds pretty straight forward (I hope).

What happens to the bolted connections? Do I need to copy those too or they get moved/updated by default?

I did read somewhere that drawings are copied too, but I don't see anything in the window mentioning the drawings.

Do they get copied too for those parts/assemblies I am going to duplicate?

If not, what is the correct way to copy them?

Thank you in advance.

I always start with the upper-most level drawing and start the copy design on that. Then it should trickle down and get everything associated with that. As for bolted connections, I don't use them. I just place my own fasteners. You could create a test assembly and try it and see what the results are. If you know you are going to copy the ENTIRE design, then instead of clicking every icon to change it from reuse to copy, just hold the control key and pick the top node once, then again and ALL items will be copied.

remember that placed standard content center items cant be copied and must be reused. You can right-click in the new file name column and do some find and replace to do a mass rename. You can also right-click and choose to replace certain components.

Workflow might vary a tad based on vault basic/vault pro

It looks to me that I can copy only the top-level drawing.

When I copy a part, I would like to copy its drawing with it?

Is it possible?

Are you using vault pro?

Does 168-0000-496.ipt have its own drawing?

There's a couple things there to check.  First, if you want to copy the drawings along with the models then make sure that the option to link drawings with model is checked.  This will automatically do to the drawing whatever you do to the model like changing path and file name.

Second, if you want to see the drawings you can check the show drawing view option.  I don't use this now, but when I first started with copy design I had this checked just so I could see what it was doing and make sure the drawings were done.

Edit: One more thing, I always select the model and do the copy design on it instead of the drawing.  That way none of the drawings show in the copy design unless I choose to show them.  Just my personal preference.
