Mouse Hover Not Selecting Parts in Assembly

Inventor 2021 and 2022.  This just started happening a couple of weeks ago.  In an assembly, when you hover over a component, it should immediately highlight that component and then if you click, it will be selected and change color (green in my case).  For some reason, mine is not highlighting on hover.  If I click, it will still be selected, but nothing changes state on hover.  Sketches are fine as lines and dimensions are highlighted as soon as the mouse pointer touches them.

Is there a setting?  Very annoying and I hope you guys have some suggestions.

Video attached.

Thank You!

Please test if Tools (tab) > Application Options > General (tab) > "Enable Optimized Selection" helps you or not.

Edit: Tools (tab) > Application Options > Colors (tab) > "Enable Prehighlight" should be on.

Can you do a screen capture to show what's happening?  Better yet would be a video.  Hard to diagnose without more information.

Hi! Try resetting Inventor. Go to Inventor Reset Utility -> reset all the Inventor settings back to install default.

Many thanks1

I've just upgraded to Inventor Professional 2026 and I'm experiencing the problem described here, but the solutions presented here have no effect. Hovering the mouse over model components in the model tree used to highlight the components in the working window. How do I restore this hover-highlight feature?

Hi! I could be wrong but I think the behavior you want to enable is indeed called Prehighlighting. Go to Tools -> App Options -> Colors -> check "Enable Prehighlighting."

Many thanks!

Thank you. The feature is working properly now. Restarting the program might have made the change take affect.
