I've had a similar problem which I eventually discovered was due to the part being slightly off axis. The default drawing view is normal to one of the part or assembly planes could your part be slightly skewed WRT the planes?

Thanks Nigel

Yes i think that you are right, the part in question has been difficult to mate due to its shape and so i have resorted to placing it by other means(visual mainly ,its possible that its slightly out of sync with its mating part. I will see if i can locate it using some other method maybe using work points or similar.

Its strange that the problem does not exist in projected views but then of course they relate to a different plane.

Hi Guys,

As discussed earlier, there are two possibilities. 1) One of the parts has bad geometry 2) There is interference between components. Could you use Inspect -> Interference Analysis to check if there is interference? Is the part imported from other CAD system? Could you provide an example so I can take a look further?

Many thanks!

Thanks johnsonshiue

I will check the interference to see if thats the problem as you have suggested. The part is not imported from another cad system and i will see if i can get an example to you for you to look at although this may take some time.

You might also try editing the drawing view.  Right click on the view and choose Edit View.  Click on the Display Options tab and try turning on/off the Tangent Edges and/or Interference Edges to bring hidden lines/edges into view.  The "interference edges" option is also a good way to indicate if you have parts inadvertently overlapping.

Thanks Ken

I will give your suggestion a try.

Generally i have come to the conclusion that a lot of these types of faults are down to bad draughting or not good constraints.

You may need to go into the Repair Geometry environment, and fix problems there. At times I found that bad geometry resulting from imported components from online sources will simply need a checkmark from "Find Errors" in the Repair Geometry module to become visible in a drawing.

Hi! Yes, Gabriel is right. Bad geometry could be an issue. There is also another possibility due to tolerance. In some cases, depending on the view scale and the actual geometry size, the given geometry and its component can be discarded for performance purpose. Such geometry may be too small to be meaningful.

Many thanks!

Try uninstalling Inventor and then installing Solid works . That fixed the problem for me

"Tangent Edges" worked! Thank you!
