Mirror components in assemblies ready only

Problems whit the mirror componente.

Why is the mirrored component in the assembly read-only?

I can not change the mirrored component file.

The original component is transparent and the mirror is not.

How do I correct this?

Thanks

Hi Marcos,

Are you talking about the mirrored part being derived? If yes, that is how the mirrored part is created via Mirror Component command. When you modify the mirror source, the mirrored part will update too. Regarding your case, you could try two different workflows.

Option 1: Open the mirrored part and edit the Derive feature -> uncheck "Use color override from source component" -> Ok. The mirrored part will become gray. Then pick the part and assign a transparent appearance. The issue here is the Derive downgrades a component based color override to feature based color override (as Derive feature). In feature/face color, transparency is not allowed, because it would expose the inner faces which have negative normal direction. It can create unintuitive behavior.

Option 2: Instead of using Mirror Component command, simply save the source part as a different part. Then open the newly saved part -> Mirror -> Mirror Solids -> pick the solid -> check "Remove Original."

Many thanks!

Hi Johnson,

Thanks for the tips, but the problems persist:

1-The problem is that the mirrored parts are read-only, so I can not save them after modifying them.

2-I'm mirroring many pieces, so to fix them all I lose a lot of time.

Thanks

Hello @marcos.pellizzoni I would recommend using the Vault for this type of workflow.

  • You can make an assembly
  • Mirror
  • When you Check In (Save) it will ask you what you want to reference as the base components.
  • Set them as new part.
  • Creates the new parts, keeps the mirrored assembly in place with reference to them, not the originals.
  • Make changes to this new assembly and it will be attached to the new parts.

The reason this is difficult without vault is that you would have to

  • SaveAs
  • Replace Component for every instance in the mirrored part.

I've done this difficult way and it's not fun but what you are trying to do. Get the Vault and you will save yourself time and headaches in more ways than one.
