MIRROR ASSEMBLY WITH ALL PARTS INTO NEW FOLDER

I want to mirror a subassembly and have all the mirrored components go into a new folder. It's a temporary thing so I can see how other parts fit around it.

I know you can individually change the folder location in the selection box, but I've got 70 parts and that's time consuming. Is there a way to group select the file location and do a bulk change?

Cheers

Hi! I am not aware of a workflow doing it during Mirror Component workflow besides changing the file path individually. If you use non-Default project, you can actually move to files to a different folders within the \Workspace\ without a problem. Inventor should be able to find the files after you relocate them to the new subfolder.

Many thanks!

Thankyou.

I'm a bit confused about that. I would still need to change the file location individually to the new workspace, is that correct?

I ended up getting around it by giving a unique suffix (or prefix) and then doing a search in explorer to find the associated files. In my case I deleted them as I didn't want them.

Hi! Do you use Default Project? Or you set up you own project? If it is former, you may encounter issues when you relocate folders. If it is latter, there should be a \Workspace\ folder in your project. Under \Workspace\, you can relocate folders however you like. Inventor will be able to resolve files accordingly as long as the files reside under \Workspace\ or Library path.

Many thanks!

Thankyou Johnson,

I did have my own project, and I see what you're saying now.

Thanks for the replies.

Hey Matt,

I know this was posted a while ago, however I was looking for a similar solution for reusing assemblies with multiple sub-assemblies and parts in different folders. The problem I was having was the file names under the assembly when copied weren't updated to the new location.

To solve this I did some digging and found this: https://blogs.rand.com/ascent/2013/05/copy-copy-design-design-copy-design-assistant-so-many-choices....

In there they refer to iLogic copying. This seems to be the quickest method for copying over large assemblies and gives you great control for file output. To find this,  make sure that the parts and assemblies are closed and you can see the 'Get Started' at the top toolbar. Right beside is 'Tools' and under the iLogic tab is 'iLogic Design Copy'. (The name doesn't apply to just iLogic items)

This should get you the copying part and then I would just mirror the assembly in the new folder.

Thanks again to Jennifer for this information.
