Minimum requirements for inventor installation

Hello, I’m a student starting marine engineering. Our teacher advises us to use inventor as that’s what he’s proficient in and I therefore need to buy a windows computer. The computer I have found fulfills all requirements except RAM. It states for 2021 Autodesk inventor the system minimum is 16 gigabytes. I have however seen posts on this forum from a few years back where people with 8 gigabytes of ram have downloaded the app? At the end of the day I would appreciate some guidance on if I’m forced to go with 16 gb of ram, or will 8gb suffice?

Always go by what Autodesk recommends as system requirements.  If your pc does not meet those requirements, expect things to not work as fast as they could.

Typically you would be ok if you are only working with part files and small assemblies if your pc does not meet minimum system requirements.

I'll get 16MB if possible.

I've 13.5GB used with everything I need running: Chrome, Outlook, Adobe PDF, Excel, IV2023, Vault, Remote Connect Client etc.

IV did slow down when Windows dump RAM to pagefile earlier.

With only 8GB, you should only have IV running and nothing else.

Thank you for your answer, so if I’m understanding correctly. I will still be able to download and run inventor, at the cost of it being slow? The most important thing for me is just it being able to run as it will only be small projects I’ll be working on

Make sure you can add another 8GB if you need.

Sometime they fill up all the RAM slot and you need to remove 8GB and install 16GB.

So you end up paying for 24GB RAM.

usually a slower computer is fine for learning Inventor.
