Migrate command doesn't work

Inventor has a Migrate command but I can't get it to change anything (... except the state of it's own button).

I open the IAM file (that together with all its components was created with Inventor 2019, let say Scissors.iam from Inventor 2019 Sample Files).

I then consequently click: File - Manage - Migrate (here if I try to click the 'Migrate' one more time I see the button got grayed-out).

I then consequently click: File - Manage - Design Assistant It shows the IAM's 'Last Update With' column still shows "2019".

If I then close the IAM it does not suggest to save and after closing there are no any changes to IAM file (neither to component IPTs).

@johnsonshiue , Could you, please, re-check this the issue and inform Inventor DevTeam if it is reproducible on your side?

PS:

I've reproduced the issue in several releases: 2022.5.2, 2023.4.2, 2024, 2024.2.1 (don't try other but think will get the same result).

Hi! I think the behavior you are seeing is related to the Save option in Tools -> App Options -> Save -> Migration. By default, to avoid forcing files to migrate, the option is set as the following.

Prompt to Save = No and Default Condition = Don't Save.

I believe you want to change it to Prompt to Save = Yes and Default Condition = Save. In this way, the memory migrated files will have to be saved.

Many thanks!

On my side:
 - Toggle 'Prompt to Save' to  'Yes' (from default 'No') changes nothing.
 - Toggle 'Default Condition' to  'Save' (from default 'Don't Save') leads to the expected result.

Thank you - at least I can now use the command!!

But I still insist this is a defect.
Pay attention on article I've referenced above says "The Migrate command prompts you to confirm to migrate the file and dependencies even when the option 'Prompt to save for migration' in the Application Options, Save tab is cleared." (which seems reasonable).
I'd rather prefer the real application behavior be brought into line with the article ... otherwise it is highly confusing.

Hi! The particular paragraph talking about "Prompt to save for migration" option is outdated. This checkbox was available in 2021 or 2020 and earlier. What this option did is slightly different than the tabulated option sets in more recent Inventor. I will work with the project team to see how it can be revised for better clarity.

My understanding of the default option sets is that Inventor discourages users to migrate files blindly. In theory, there is no need to migrate files unless you absolutely want to. One caveat is that if you did use assembly LOD in 2021 and earlier, when moving to 2022 and later, I personally suggest you migrate the files. It is because LODs no longer exist and they are migrated to Model States. It is  better to migrate those files than paying the penalty of migrating in the memory on open every time.

Many thanks!
