Mesh Optimization

Hello everyone,

I'm currently performing some simulation with inventor and I'm trying to mesh with 1mm elements. 

But since the component is only 3mm thick,  have only one element along the whole thickness of the component.

I've attached a screenshot of the mesh. 

It would be helpful if I can get the elements to divide along the thickness.

Hi! Did you try adding Local Mesh Control to specify the length of elements on certain faces?

Hi,

I did apply an element size of 1mm locally. As you can see in the screenshot, the mesh size is different in that particular region, but like I said, there is only one element along the entire thickness.

For modelling such thin surfaces, due to this problem inventor has a 'midsurfaces' option which you should look into using instead.

it is possible to use local mesh control as Johnson suggests along the face across the thickness and specify 1mm elements.

failing that you can continue to reduce the average element size until you get at least 3 elements across the thickness but this will slow down your simulation considerably. 

Does your simulation contain only 3mm thick material?
