A pretty severe memory leak was introduced in update 2024.3.

Hi! Could you share the Inventor workflow leading to the behavior? Is it specific to a file or it can be encountered by any file you try.

Many thanks!

I can't feasibly share the work flow because it's just my entire work flow. Inventor just slows down as I use it no matter what I am doing until it maxes out my RAM and freezes. The steps to reproduce are "use Inventor for anything for 2 hours".

I can share some aspects of my work flow, but there is nothing unusual being done or any add-ons being used.

  • Vault is in use
  • Editing in context frequently
  • Sometimes using simplified parts
  • Sometimes using flexible sub-assemblies
  • No simulations are used

Hi! A few things to check.

1) Go to File Explorer -> %temp% -> clean up as many files as possible.

2) Make sure all critical Windows updates are installed and the graphics driver is updated.

3) Go to Tools -> App Options -> Assembly -> uncheck "Enable Express mode."

4) Make sure there is "C:\Temp." Open the assembly and press Ctrl+F7. Scroll the dialog to the bottom. Is there any bad body reported? If yes, run Repair workflow on those bad bodies.

Many thanks!

I already cleared %temp%.

Everything is up to date.

Express Mode is disabled.

C:/Temp exists.

There is one part with a bad body. Repair Bodies will not allow me to select any part of it.

Just FYI I'm not having this issue with the update. My RAM use doesn't slowly max out, I leave Inventor open all week long and shut down the PC on weekends

Inventor is now unusable after about 1 hr of use.

Does memory use decrease after closing all IV files?

Does memory use decrease after closing Inventor?

The memory usage will disappear when the entire application closes, but individual tabs have no effect. Inventor is leaking into memory so only Windows can wipe it when the process ends.

You have addin, macro and iLogic rules?

I'm running IV2023 and 16GB RAM is not enough.  About 20GB used with around 1GB on IV.  With one ModelState file opened.

I upgraded from 16GB to 64GB.

Committed memory is memory swapped to disk which will keep increasing.

Working set is in RAM.

After all files are closed, it took a few minutes for working set to drop.  Committed doesn't.

After a few minutes:

Hi! I suspect this is probably hardware resource related. It looks like you have 16GB RAM. That is the minimum to run Inventor. It does not seem that you have a lot of graphics RAM either.

Depending on your workflow, very soon you will run out of memory. Could you share your hardware spec?

Many thanks!

@johnsonshiue

I notice IV "Hard Faults" while Check In files to Vault:

IVMemory-03.jpg

Those are ModelState assemblies and it take a long time to Check In.  15 minutes or more.

IV will load each ModelState.  After that it'l be "Not Responsive" for a while.  Using 6-9% CPU.

Model States have never given me trouble. Assemblies with 3+ model states always check-in instantly for me. I doubt that's the problem.

Working with 200+ ModelStates assembly with ModelState sub-assembly and part.

We have some iLogic rules, but none of them run without a user starting them manually. Inventory worked fine (fine by Inventor standards) until this update when it suddenly started eating memory. The other engineers have been spared because I warned them not to install the latest update until Autodesk rolls out a fix.

It's going to be a hard sell to the customer base and my boss if a patch upped the memory requirements beyond 16 GB with no additional features. However, it will be an even harder sell to dump our subscription so I might be able to to get our PCs upgraded. Before I do that, I have to know that Autodesk is committed to upping the memory requirements beyond 16 GB.

Does "Working Set" slowly drop after you closed all files in Inventor?

Hi! If possible, please share the Inventor files that exhibit the behavior with me directly johnson.shiue@autodesk.com. I would like to try it on my machines to see if it is indeed hardware related (64GB RAM vs 16GB RAM).

Many thanks!

The file is attached. If any file is causing this issue, it must be this. The other parts are way too simple.

I ran Inventor until it started to lag, captured Resource Monitor, closed Inventor, and captured again. It looks like Inventor's working set drops to zero after closing. That's what I assume is indicated by the greyed-entry.

Hi! I am sorry I must have missed something. I am not seeing any Inventor file in the attachment. Please attach it here or sent it to me directly johnson.shiue@autodesk.com.

Many thanks!
