Measure function VERY slow.

is there anyone familiar with very slow performance of the measure tool.

Every time i press 'm' it takes at least 5 seconds for the tool to show up.

I am running inventor 2022.2.2

when we justinstalled 2022 it also was slow, and somehow there was a period that it ran fine.

But in the last 2 weeks it is just terrible.

it does not matter how large the assembly i have open. i searched online but i cannot find anything about it.

i was hoping the next link was a solution to my problem but it does not do anything.

https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/inventor/troubleshooting/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/Inven...

and it is not just me. in the company i work in with about 25 inventor users, they all have the same issue.

If people don't know about slow performance of this function, maybe it's usefull for me to have some background information on how the function work, the things it uses to start up. maybe it helps diagnosing then problem.

kind regards,

Geert van der Heide

Hi! I suspect this is due to the need to detect loops. Open a simple part and go to Measure tool -> click on the hamburger menu (three bars) -> uncheck "Detect Sketch Loops."

Many thanks!

Hi Johnson,

I tried it but i still don't see any improvements. it still takes a few seconds for it to load.

Hi! If possible, please share the files with me johnson.shiue@autodesk.com. I would like to understand the poor performance in Measure here.

Many thanks!

well, i could send any file to you, because it is every file that i try it in.

Even when i create a new part directly from a template then it also is very slow, even witihout anything in it.

So i am wodnering if this problem is file related.

Also all my other colleagues have the same issue. So i supsect something in the realm of shared files/ installation/local network.

It used to work fine in INV2022, but i cannot open a certain file that works good now.

One of my colleagues has the same issue on his PC, we're all running the same version and with the same network config etc.

Hi Geert,

I am posting the reply I sent through private message, since there isn't anything proprietary here.

I don't believe this is a file-specific issue. It is more about the environment. Please make sure all critical Windows updates are installed and the graphics driver is updated.

You mentioned that the files are stored in a shared network drive. This setup can cause performance issue. It is because Inventor loads and unloads files dynamically. In order to load, it has to get the files from the network. The network speed, bandwidth, and security can play a role here.

Pick a computer and set up a local storage. Make sure all files (including libraries) are local. Try the Measure workflow. If it performs better, this means the network does impact the performance.

A test worth trying is to pull down the files locally and disable Vault Add-In to compare the behaviors.

Many thanks!

Hello, has anyone found a fix for this? In our office two people have the same problem, but the rest of us dont. It takes a few seconds for them before the measure tool is loaded.

Best regards,

Robbert

Hi @johnsonshiue & @GeertvanderHeide

I have the "Detect Sketch Loops" ticked all time for every versions.

I and my colleagues have never had such issue.

Maybe double check the project file setup?

Please mark "Accept as Solution" and "Like" if my reply resolves the issue and it will help when others need helps.

it has been a while since i had this issue, somehow it may have resolved itself.

something i do find is that when inventor tends to get a bit slower that there are new windows updates available.

simply restarting/ updating pc helps a lot for the system speed.

maybe your colleagues have their pc running overnight?

Hi Folks,

Whether or not "Detect Sketch Loop" will slow down depends on the geometry you are dealing with. It can happen more frequently when a sketch contains excessive number of loops (1000+) or it is an underlay of AutoCAD dwg file. Or a face with excessive number of edge loops.

If you don't deal with anything like above, the option on or off will not matter much.

Many thanks!
