Mass, Area and Volume are read wrong for a part in the assembly

Hi,

 

I have assembly made of 11 parts and a sub-assembly. I have employed user parameters on one of the part files (base component) to define the key dimensions of all the other parts (derived parts). When i make changes to the parameters on the base component, the parts update and render as they should. The individual derived parts files update their physical properties too, namely mass, area and volume. 

The problem is, for one of the parts on the assembly, its mass, area and volume values are stuck. It always shows the same number and do not change even after rebuild. When I tried component replace, the mass, area and volume field appeared blank and when I clicked on Update, the same incorrect numbers appeared again.

 

Does anyone know what is going on here? 

I am willing to supply more information if required.

Addition (5/5/2022):
This has led to the incorrect mass for the sub-assembly (AC-10-110) being registered in the assembly (AC-10) and its BOM. 

In summary:

Part File : Mass correct

Sub-Assembly file : Mass Incorrect in model, Mass correct in BOM

Assembly file : Mass incorrect in Model, Mass incorrect in BOM.

The component in question is not set to Reference is it? Reference components are ignored from all mass/CG/surface area/etc. properties. (Tools/Doc Settings).

You will have to check the ipt itself as well as the assembly in question.

@steveh5 The part is labeled as Normal. I have tried changing it to Reference and back again to Normal, but it does not help.

I have solved the problem by cleaning up the assembly.

I had one of the assembly features suppressed by moving the "end of features" marker over the feature. The moment i moved the "end of features" marker to include the suppressed feature, the mass of the part got updated to the correct value. 

I agree that it is always a good practice to follow proper housekeeping practices while modelling but the problem I faced shouldn't have been an issue.

Good to hear....

One tool that I always go to is the Manage/Rebuild All...

Seems to fix problem issues like this.

Broke but shouldn't be.

May or May Not have in this situation 🙂rebuildall.png

Unfortunately my go to button for all errors "Rebuild All" did not work this time. Even "Replace Component" couldn't help.

Have you tried flipping the accuracy.

Once in awhile we come across a part that we need to dial this up. Usually tends to be pretty old parts and most often are a helix of some sort.

I have an old thread on it somewhere, will attempt to dig it up.

 

Unfortunate thing is that you don't know it's not calculating and don't think there's a warning either.

I tried changing the accuracy. Didn't help.

"Unfortunate thing is that you don't know it's not calculating and don't think there's a warning either." - This is so worrying. I will never be able to fully depend on mass readings from Inventor.
