Louver iFeature

Hello!

I am attempting to make a Louver iFeature. I have made the Cut and Sweep to model the Louver, but when trying to add them to the iFeature it only allows one feature or the other, not both simultaneously.

I have attached the .ipt for the part. If someone could tell me where I am going wrong that would be great! Thanks!

Hi! For iFeature and Punchtool, only sketch-based features (and fillet and chamfer on the feature geometry) are supported. Sweep based on 3D sketch rail is not supported.

For the two examples here, I would suggest you derive them into a sheet metal part and then reposition it to the location. Use Combine to merge it into the body. However, you will not be able to annotate it like a punchtool in the drawing.

Many thanks!

The tutorials I've seen show louver iFeatures being made this way, but they add the Cut and Sweep into the "Selected Features" column.

In my drawing, for some reason I can add either the Cut, or the Sweep, not both simultaneously.

EDIT: This is the tutorial I was following

Hi Brian,

Yes, Sweep is supported except when the path is based on a 3D Sketch. The example you shared uses a 2D path.

Many thanks!

The only difference I can see is that in the Solid Bodies folder in the ribbon I have 2 solid bodies and the one in the tutorial has only 1. I'm not sure why this is, or how to fix it, but I think that might be where the problem lies

@nickbranyan  Bingo.. Thats it. Just edit the feature and select "Join" in the boolean section which will unselect the new solid option.  Then you can make your part as is.

I didn't even see that originally..

@josefina.policarpio

Sketch2,3 & 4 have a Projected origin centerpoint.

It is best to turn off autoprojection of Origin when creating Punch Tools.

Hi! I took a quick look at the ipt file. I don't see problems. I also extracted it as a Punchtool (see attached). It seems to work fine on placement. Could you try it on your machine?

Many thanks!

Attached is a version of the file posted in post 8, with the placement sketch updated to work as a sheet metal punch
