Loft problem with an airfoil

Hi,

I'm trying to make a wing with the loft function. Everythings work fine until I use the rails to guide my loft. Despite having four of them, it creates a weird and bumpy shape on the leading edge of the foil. Can anyone help?

Thanks!pb2.pngpb.png

Sorry I can not open your file for not having this version of inventor. However, I am sure that  @JDMather   will be able to solve his problem, and help him in his work. I send a cordial greeting

Thank you,

How could I send @JDMather a message?

I think, he'll loose some hairs with this in Inventor. I've done it in Rhino.

Thank you very much for your quick answer!

The airfoil is very nice but is it possible to get all the parameters that were used to make it? I would like to be able to freely modify the wing's curves and the airfoil naca profil just by changing the few parameters that were used to make it and then export it to an other software with APIs.

Moreover, I don't have Rhino so I don't know if I will access to these parameters easily and iLogic is quite convenient when it comes to APIs.

Thank you for your help and excuse me for the disturbance.

Best regards

I've seen that you're using equation curves for the shape of the airfoil. That's looking good, but what happens from root to tip? It's getting distorted.

Why  does that occur? Because of projecting the skeletal line on planes at both sides, it's getting straight. But airfoil thickness needs to follow the chord length -> Curved line at the thickest region.

Thank you, I didn't think about this!

Ok so I took off the guiderails on the planes on the sides of the wing. However, the distortion still occures.

Here is the current state of the wing.

Still no luck with my Inventor attempts. But here's an interesting airfoil generator with Rhino's Grasshopper plugin

Smiley Frustrated I'll never get used to Screencast magic.

I had a look at it, very interesting!

I guess it is possible to do the same in inventor if you add some extra parameters (in fact, only two more are needed) and without this nice interfaceSmiley Very Happy. The function I wrote is simplified for symmetrical naca airfoils but making a 4 digits profil seems feasable.

However, isn't the problem coming from the loft function rather than the airfoil itself?

Sure, Loft doesn't work here. The airfoil screencast was just for joy.

I've tried some other ways without success. Let's see, if someone can provide a solution.

I've been surprised with this issue, too. Perhaps the equation curve is the cause, in general airfoil lofting works.

It is, as it is.

Smiley Frustrated Ceterum censeo: UI changes are not the most interesting tasks with Inventor improvements.
