To sketch Z axis, I activated the Project Geometry tool and click on Z axis. I got 3 lock sign as well. What is the reason?

Hi,

If you could send me the assembly file with parts, I will look into this.

Hi,

While having a deeper look at your model, I come to know that,

you are working on sketch 7 which belongs to the assembly (Comes directly under assembly model tree).

And you are trying to project the z axis of part4. Because of this scenario, your projected geometry comes with a lock sign (Automatic fixed constrain applied).

To avoid this problem, you have to project the y axis of the assembly.

See the attached screen shot.

Try yourself and let me know if you face any problem.

Happy working!

Hi Fiat.

You have Show All Constraint activated (F8)

Try F9 (Hide All Constraints)

The lock symbol tells you that that geometry is fixed (and it's true)

You're using a locked provided  Z axis so it's locked. This way it's the same for everyone as a default. You'd get this also for the other Origin items.

You can also do this in your sketches

Why Lock Sign is absent with assembly origin?

Because you are creating a sketch in assembly environment and using the parent origin. The behaviour will be similar to part environment.

But, if you use the origin of other part to create a sketch in assembly it has to be automatically fixed to avoid problems associated with part's location change.

For example, you are using a part's origin in your assembly sketch. Then you move your part to some other locations. Then the assembly sketch will give you a error message "sketch entities reference not found". All this will happen only if the projected axis is not locked.

I hope, this is clear. If you accept this, click accept as solution button. ☺
