Link Existing Content Center Files to a Different Content Center Library?

All,

I am working with a user who has many content center files that seem to have been edited locally, meaning in the past the part numbers were changed on the local copies but the content center families were never updated.  Is it possible to link existing content center parts to a different (custom) content center library?  I realize there are other ways to get around this, but I am curious if this is possible.  If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.  Hope all is well and have a most blessed day!

Peace,

Pete

You can right click the family table in the Content Center editor and use Replace Family Template to replace it with one that was saved as custom, and edited locally.

Chris,

Thanks for the information and I will take a look at it and see if that gets me where I need to go.  Just to clarify, the files that were edited locally were not the libraries, but the actual placed files themselves.  I've seen this a couple of times recently, where it was almost like a separate project file was utilized to actually edit the locally placed files, which makes them out of sync with the CC library.  Perhaps older project file versions also allowed for this.  Not sure if this will affect the advice you gave at all, but wanted to throw that out there.  Hope all is well and have a most blessed day!

Peace,

Pete

If they were able to edit them, it is at least possible that when they were placed, they used the "As Custom" option.  This creates a local copy of the CC part that is independant regardless of the project file.  No way to know from here if that's what was done, but if they're editable there is a chance that replace family template will work.

Good luck!

Ouch, if the user retained the "Standard" radio button when he created/placed the CC item, then it should reside in the CC folder desinated by the Application Options/Content Center or Application Options/Files options. If the user selected the "Custom" radio button when creating/placing the CC item, this file could be stored in the Work Directory of your Project.

You might be able to filter for CC items but it won't tell you which folders they are located. You could use C Bliss's BOM Extrator which will give your the file path for each item in the BOM. http://www.cbliss.com/inventor/iCode/index.htm
