Line snapping jumps to different points than selected?

When I'm in a sketch and trying to draw lines in Inventor 2017, it is for some reason more often than not, choosing different points to snap the line to than the ones I selected.  I had not had this problem prior to 2017.  It's hard to describe so I took a screen capture video.  I hover over a point, when it turns green I click, then hover over another point until it turns green and click, and then my line jumps to a different end of one of the projected segments.  Very frustrating to draw a line or an arc 3 or 4 times before it does what I want it to.

Have you tried adjusting the "locate tolerance" in tools..application options..general tab

Locate tolerance

Sets the distance (in pixels) from which clicking selects an object. Enter a number from 1 to 10 or click the up or down arrow to select the distance.

Thank you for the suggestion.  I just tried that, and while changing the value lower reduces the tolerance for where the initial snap occurs while hovering, it doesn't seem to affect the phenomena of having the arc or line snap to the opposite side of the selected segment when clicking to finish the arc.

To try and clarify a little more:

1- Hover over a point

2- On green click to start arc/line

3- Hover over desired end point

4- Desired end point goes green as if it's snapping where desired

5- Clicking to confirm end point placement, endpoint jumps to opposite end of the segment.

yes I have noticed it too..

I have just learned to work around it.. I just place my end points further away and then dimension to move them into the correct spot..

Hi Guys,

This may have something to do with the default snap setting. Go to Tools -> Document Setting -> Modeling -> 3D Snap Spacing -> Angle Snap -> change it to a smaller value like 1 deg -> Ok. Does I work better now?

Many thanks!

Hello Johnson,

Thank you for the suggestion.  I tried both increasing and decreasing 3D snap spacing angle, with no effect.  I also tried increasing or decreasing the distance snap and that had no effect either.

Every "snap" related setting I've changed or found, only seems to effect where the cursor will snap to when hovering, and not when the entity being drawn is initiated by the click of the mouse.

Another video, this is an absurd example I found where it won't even take the initial point selection and instead switches to opposite ends of both entities I'm trying to draw a line between.

I want to verify this.

In Inventor 2018, if I try to snap a sketch line to an end point on another sketch line, the new line gets snapped to the opposite end point than the one I indicated.

So far I could not figure out what the issue is, but changing Application Settings doesn't seem to affect it. I believe it might be a bug.

I've sent my IPT off to support and they too had the same problem.  It was kicked to the development team.

Hi,

OK, the problem was reproducible, a ticket (INVGEN-10953) is open to track it down.

Thanks!

All, I have been told that a fix is being validated for this issue.

Any progress on that fix?

In Inventor 2018 (build 112) this is still an issue. In the video I am trying to join a line created using a polar parametric function to its own offset.

In my case I could get around it by drawing a separate line and constraining the end points with a lot of limitations. Most of the constraints did not work in this area (coincident caused unwanted angles, horizontally constraining cause the same issue as in the video, and perpendicularly constraining caused the same angle issues).

Would love to see this fixed!

Can you Attach file here that exhibits this behavior?

The error occurs when attempting to draw the line from the video in sketch1 around the origin point

I will say this issue seems to be much improved in 2020.
