Leader Text Wrapping

After searching for about 15 minutes getting very frustrated I think I have learned this is not possible which is absolutely insane and I just can't believe it so I am posting here.

This happens VERY frequently. I make a drawing of my model, and I place leaders all over the place. VERY often I am typing a long description in the leader text box. On AutoCAD I simply grab the side of the textbox node and push/pull it until the text wraps to the size I want to look neat and fit in my drawing. Does Inventor seriously not have this option? I have to manually separate the lines for each one? Please help!

Hi! The auto wrapping is only available in Text, not Leader Text. If you like AutoCAD's drafting workflows, you may still use AutoCAD to annotate drawing views. AutoCAD can create associative drawing views for Inventor components. The command is called VIEWBASE. Once the views are created, you may use AutoCAD commands to annotate the views. When the model is updated in Inventor, AutoCAD will update the dwg file and adjust the annotations accordingly.

Many thanks!

Hi John,

Although I am very disappointed and frustrated that this incredibly simple thing can not be done on an advanced 3D program costing thousands of dollars annually, I am willing to give your solution a try. I do not fully understand how to do this. typing VIEWBASE into inventor does nothing. Can you please be a little bit more specific and explain in detail how I would annotate a drawing while remaining completely associative?

ViewBase is a command in AutoCAD.

It doesn't help. Johnson suggested that you could create drawings in AutoCAD from Inventor models, if that drafting toolset is better for your workflow.

Oh i see thanks for clarifying that. I definitely would like to stay within Inventor since I love being able to change the model and trusting the leaders will update if i set them up that way...this is very simply just about resizing the "text box" in a leader as ive seen many others frustrated with.

Doesnt sound possible, so thanks for all your help anyway!

I  break them (leader texts) simply with line bram (ENTER) in the text.

Hi Chris,

I am not sure what "line bram" is but i feel like youre saying you do what I end up having to do manually which is go into the text and guess a good spot to hit ENTER to break up the text into multiple lines.  When im dealing with enough text to fill 3-4 lines, this can get annoying to make sure it looks good.

Obviously, this is a very small issue that takes less time to deal with than this forum post, I am just yet again stunned by another failure of this program to do something so simple. Thanks!

I meant to write "line break".

I am also astonished how is it possible so in such software very basic functionalities are missing or are half made.

This is one of the reasons that made me resign from subscription.

Autodesk is fully aware of the simple things need fixing and still decides to do nothing about that for years.

Supper disrespectful towards users.
