Large skeleton driven assembly crashes on update

Hi!

 

This is my first post on these forums. I've been struggling with this for a few days now.

I have a large excel sheet that i can use to configure a metal conveyor belt that consists of platelinks, eyelinks and crossrods in some kind of pattern.

This pattern is calculated in excel and the dimensions are pushed to the assembly all pattern instances are constrained to a single zero plain.  

The skeleton part pushes all parameters to the parts and sub assemblies.

The problem is when I update the main assembly after changing parameters inventor crashes.

The only way to get the main assembly up to date is by opening, updating and saving every part and sub assembly.

I tried to do this with the task schedular. This works but gives a lot of inventor crash screens and a few parts/ sub assemblies that failed.

 

Am I doing something wrong? Or is this a bug in Inventor 2018?

Hi! Regardless of what you did with Inventor, Inventor should not crash. So, there must be a bug here. Could you provide an example exhibiting the issue? Or, share the files with me on a cloud drive of your choice ([email protected]). I would like to understand the crash better.

Just curious ... how big is this main assembly and how many parameters are you reading and pushing from Excel and the main model ??

I ran into something similar where I had a main assembly reading approx. 20 parameters from an Excel spreadsheet and pushing them to (12) different sub-assemblies.

There was always a delay and a few times it did crash.

Interested to hear the results of this thread.

The Excel file pushes approx. 60 parameters. These are used in 48 sub assemblies.

I understand that there might be some delay and that updating the assembly can take some time.

But I tried this like 30 times and it always resulted in a crash.

Hello,

I am not sure if the memory is enough for such operation? Have you monitoring the memory when update design? could you share more information about your hardwares?

Just tried it again while monitoring my memory usage. But this is not the problem. After I opened Inventor I use approx. 6,4GB after opening the assembly and trying to update it peaks to 7,2GB. I have a total of 32GB of RAM so this should not be an issue. My CPU is an Intel Xeon E5-1650 v4 @ 3.60GHz and a the GPU is a Nvidia Quadro K2200.

Hello, seems not the case of hardware. Can you try to simplify a data to us and we can take a closer investigation on.

Hello,

please clean your temp folder after you have closed all your applikations.

 

In Windows Explorer: %temp% and hit enter.

Hi Wouter,

 

I have located the crash reports you submitted (the following links are not accessible from outside of Autodesk). It seems to be a known crash in the constraint solver, which will be fixed in the coming 2018.3 Update (releasing soon).
