Large File Hanging up IV

I have a file that was converted from IGS to an .ipt. It is all surfaces. It is about 270 MB. just getting it to save as an IPT was hard enough. Now I can open it. but if I try to modify it or do anything and save it, it will still hang inventor. I feel like 275 MB really isn't that big in the grand scheme of a file size.  Is there something I should be looking at in the conversion process? I need to be able to put this part (a consolidated assembly) into another Assembly for referencing.

Try the "Simplify" command.

It is not an assembly. it is an .ipt. IF I do somehting as simple as change the view from transparent to translucent, it will not allow me to save.

When I converted from IGS to .ipt the surfaces came in as composite. is Stitched or construction better?

Hi! I bet that is a massive surface model. I don't believe there is an one-click workflow to simplify the geometry (Simplify workflow only works for solid bodies).

If you do need to repurpose the IGES imported surface bodies, you may want to run Repair Bodies workflow to clean up the surface bodies and try to stitch them back to solid bodies.

If it is used for reference purpose, you may consider the following.

1) Create work features in the critical area of the model.

2) Hide the surface bodies and export the work features as STEP.

3) Unhide the surface bodies and export them as mesh stl or obj.

4) Import the mesh and the STEP files accordingly.

Many thanks!

It is a massive surface model. It is ONE massive surface model. right now, I can get it into Vault as an IPT. I can put it in Assemblies, but the second I try to make the surfaces opaque, it locks the machine up when I attempt to save it. Unfortunately, the model is far to sensitive to share.

I am exporting as an .obj file, and setting the resolution to medium or low...we'll see if that helps. Now the computer just has to chug its way thru the conversion.
