kit file? Open in Inventor

Anonymous
Not applicable

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone knew if it was possible to open (or convert a .kit file) so that it can be opened in Inventor?

I've received a .kit file for a kitchen design and would like to take some measurements from it. Inventor is the only CAD package I use and have access to.

I believe that it is not possible to open them or convert them to Inventor files but would like to be pleasantly surprised.

Many thanks for you help.

Thanks for response mcgyvr. The file type comes from some kitchen design software, when I open the file in notepad there are some identifiable words and dimensions hidden in a lot of what looks like machine code. For instance it will name a cupboard and then give the location as well as component dimensions. I believe that when opened by the correct package it can read this text in and convert to a visual image. I think the solid geometry doesn't exist so I can't get a step file output. I was wondering if Inventor code read and interpret this file type and create surfaces or solids based on it. I suspected not as it's not. I think there are free viewers available on the internet for this type of file. I'll see if I can get that to work or if not go back to whoever sent it to me and get them to give me the dimensions I need.

According to a quick Google search, 2020 Design (kitchen/bath design software from 20-20 Technologies) can export to 3D .dwg, which Inventor can import.  But no, .kit format is not readable by Inventor directly.
