Keyboard Shortcuts + Enter

Keyboard Shortcuts + Enter

Hello guys. I am currently using Autodesk Inventor 2019. I'd like to work more effective and use short-cuts like "D" for Dimension or "E" for extrude, but I am not able to do this. Inventor lets me do the operation if I press let's say "D+Enter" which is frustrating and time consuming. Do you have any ideas of how I can use the shortcuts whitout having to press Enter each time to acknowledge the action. I know it's possible, but don't know how to fix this issue. Thanks a lot.

I don't have to push enter ... I pause for a second and if I do D and pick what I  want to Dimension it works.

If I hit M it starts measure without hitting enter

Are you pausing for a quick sec?

Have you tried the Inventor Reset Utility?

What build of 2019 are you on?

Hi. Thanks for replying. I've tried waiting for a second or 2, but no, it doesn't work on my computer. I still have to press nter after the shortcut. Unfortunately, due to Corona Virus I am working from home and I don't dare to try to Reset the Whole program in case somethings happens and I will not be able to work on my Projects...

Export out your settings...

Did you update your Keys / shortcuts from the Default?

The Reset also doesn't wipe Window ...gets everything back to out of the box per say for settings.

You want it to do what I'm doing in the video ... touch and go...

Also, are you on Remote or VPN?

I'll try that.

Yes, I want my settings to be like Yours.

I am on VPN.

That's likely why ... you're lagging / delayed over the VPN ( not uncommon)

If you were running it locally, it likely wouldn't be giving you this issue.

Do you have it installed locally just to test it?

I solved the problem. So this button was checked : "Use default multi-character Command Aliasses". Uncheck it and it will work just fine. Thanks for helping me 🙂Capture.PNG

I was having the same problem and un-checking that text box didn't work for me.

What worked for me was eliminating the other keyboard shortcuts from other "categories" (eg. Assembly, Sketch, Part etc.).  That way the key was unambiguously pointing to one command only. regardless of the context. I only want one key to refer to one command (regardless of the context) to avoid additional mental work, so this was fine for me.

I have the same problem. The textbox is unchecked. If I sort the list in all categories by keys then there are no multiple commands that use the shortkey "M".

Solution: changed my shortkey to "Y" (because these one is not in use) and it works fine now.

Hi! I am sorry I cannot seem to reproduce the behavior. Did yo go to Tools -> Customize -> Keyboard -> uncheck "Use default multi-character command alias"?

Many thanks!

I find it to be an intermittently recurring issue every few months or so. Every time it happens, I make sure that "Use default multi-character command alias" is unchecked, but that doesn't help. I also make sure that I don't have any commands assigned to the same key. Restarting Inventor usually fixes it.

So I'm not sure if it's a bug or whether I've accidentally pressed something on my keyboard that's put it into a particular mode. But yes, instead of (e.g.) doing "dimension" immediately on pressing "D", it sits there waiting for you to type more or press Enter.

I experience the same thing and have for several versions.  It occurs more often for me, sometimes every other day, but the exact same experience: some days 'L' in the sketch environment immediately starts the Line tool, but some days it doesn't and is waiting for Enter or additional keystrokes.  Annoying, mainly, but also very odd, since nothing has changed that I know of.

The only workaround is to hit "enter" (or space bar) after the shortcut. Pretty annoying.

I don't know if it is related but I have 2 problems that maybe started at the same time. One is this shortcut behavior, the other problem is that the red constrain arrow (in assembly) is hidden when trying to pick faces. it only shows after leaving the mouse in one spot and wait for the "select other" delay time.

@Anonymous, @johnsonshiue is there a way you can unmark this issue as "Solved"? It seems to be an ongoing problem and the accepted solution (un-checking "Use default multi-character Command Aliases") doesn't fix it.

Thanks.

@SBix26@peter.kapitola ,

Thanks your feedback about this issue. Could you please help check which commands are shown when pressing arrow key down/up if the problem happen? We want to know which command(s) conflict. Many thanks!

I just had this same issue after using the inventor reset utility for 2022.3. This issue persisted on one computer, but not another. What I found was that on the computer that did not require "enter" to be pressed the measure command was the only one with the "M" key. When I looked on the computer that did require the "enter" key to be pressed there were other commands that had the "M" key mapped. two of which were mirror commands with the shortcut "MI" and one additional command had the shortcut "MO". Once I removed the shortcuts that were mapped to "MI" and "MO" the measure command worked without the "enter" key being pressed.

Hi Brendon,

Recently, it brought to me attention that some of the mysterious behavior could be related how Inventor dlls are loaded. In general, Inventor loads dlls on demand (whenever they are needed). However, in some cases and on some machine, this loading process can lead to unexpected command behaviors. Try the following and see if it makes a difference.

Close Inventor and go to Control Panel -> System -> Advanced System Settings -> Environment Variable -> add "DYNAMIC_LOAD_APPLETS" and set it to 0.

Restart Inventor and perform the defective workflow.

It may or may not help but it won't do any harm.

Many thanks!
