Joint to sketch geometry — How to get Grip Points along the sketch line axis (Normal to)?

Hi There,

 

I'm coming from Fusion and trying to replicate a layout sketch workflow in Inventor.

 

In Fusion, when placing a Joint I can snap to end points and midpoints along the sketch line axis.

 

In Inventor, when I hover over a sketch line during the Joint command, I get grip points in a different direction. Not along sketch line axis.

 

Is it possible to get grip points along a line axis?

 

Am I missing a option to reorient grip points? I've tried holding down shift or control while hovering with no success.

Hi

It depends on what you want to achieve.
Should the preposition be rigid (at a specific distance from the end of the section) or flexible?

Different variants are possible, but require different tools and work techniques.

As a general rule, these programs shouldn't be compared. They have different functions and workflows. They differ not only on a macro scale but also in the capabilities of commands with the same names.

Using one program to learn another can cause frustration and slow down the learning process.
It is worth setting a clear boundary between one program and another

And one more thing - why do you want to connect sketch lines at all?
Are you sure your workflow is correct?

Hi Troy,

 

Inventor Joint works slightly differently than Fusion Joint. In Inventor, the grip points on a 2D sketch are strictly locked to the sketch plane. Their orientation cannot be changed, unlike Fusion. For grip points on a body, you may select adjacent faces to change the grip point orientation.

Thanks John, I see that now...

The big difference for me was there's no "along a sketch line snaps" like in Fusion.  I use layout sketches quite a bit especially now I have to coordinate parts and assemblies. So now that  I understand this limitation I can better adapt to Inventor.

 

There's always a way! 😁
