I get this error stating I need to reinstall Inventor because acewstr.dll is missing.
I tried to do a repair, didn't help.
Wondering why I need to do a reinstall when all that I find on the internet estates this is a Microsoft Office dll?
Any advice other than a reinstall?

I've searched my PC and this is where I found this file:
You could try first re-registering the DLL, if it exists on your machine:
How to re-register ACEWSTR.DLL from an elevated command prompt:
1.Click the Start button.
2.Type "command" in the search box... DO NOT hit ENTER yet!
3.While holding CTRL-Shift on your keyboard, hit ENTER.
4.You will be prompted with a permission dialog box.
5.Click Yes.
6.Type the following command: regsvr32 /u ACEWSTR.DLL.
7.Hit ENTER. This will UN-REGISTER your file.
8.Type the following command: regsvr32 /i ACEWSTR.DLL.
9.Hit ENTER. This will RE-REGISTER your file.
10.Close the command prompt window.
11.Re-start the program associated with ACEWSTR.DLL error.
If that doesn't work, the DLL may be corrupted.
Hi Hosford
This error message may be caused by a missing or incorrect reference to the Microsoft Access database engine 2010 application.
To resolve this problem, uninstall and reinstall the database engine. Here you can find an article with a possible suggestion that might be useful:
Error: "The driver ‘AceRedist’ is missing" when launching AutoCAD Electrical and Autodesk Inventor.
The startup errors may reference acewstr.dll, or in the event log refer to a crash of Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0.

not sure how this was picked as the cure to my issue.
Autodesk sent me an e-mail with directions to fixing the issue.
also of note, this was about Microsoft database engine, and I had 2 of them in my installed programs, thinking office 2013 installed one and Autodesk installed the other.
The cure was to uninstall Microsoft Access database engine 2010 (English) and reinstall it using the Inventor install thumb drive.

I'm not sure either.
'Accept as Solution' button was not available to me.
Maybe Marco @solanocano.5 has an explanation...
In any case, I'm glad you've found the cure.
I was having the same issue as hosford. This occurred after performing some windows updates last week. I was unable to re-register the acewstr.dll file, but re-installing the office 2010 database fixed the issue very easily. I couldn't locate the .msi file on my computer, but found it easily on the installation thumb drive.
Thanks for posting this.
