Issues with Creating my First Inventor 2017.3 Tutorial

I don't know if any of you have investigated this new (related) functionality in Inventor 2017 - but I thought I would make my hike up the hill public so that you guys and gals can help, push, pull or drag along with me.

1. Issue: I see the video in Edit, but not in Play Tutorial.
2. Issue: How to I get Pop-out to work.

3. Where is this thing in the clouds?

As for number three...

I found your tutorial in the same tool under all available.

Also, when I click download, it is empty - like the video never got published

JD,

Thanks for trying this new functionality out.

First for your video issue here are some steps to help debug the problem.  Play the tutorial again, select the play button (which currently doesn't do anything for you) and hit F12.  You should see a chrome-devtools screen like the one I show below.  Select the Console tab.  If we are having problems opening the video there should be an error there that may tell us what is causing the problem.

For the flashing graphics it looks like we are saving the tutorial rapidly which is causing the screen to flash like that.  I'm not sure what would be causing that but we do have a way for you to create a log file to send us that could help us identify what may be causing this.  If you set an environment variable "Lwsdebug" to 1 and then restart your computer we will generate a log file here: C:\Users\Public\Documents\Autodesk\.desktop-connect.  If you run into that issue again feel free to copy that logfile here and we can take a look at it and see what is happening.

For your third question, were you asking about how you can access your tutorials or where we actually store them?

Lastly when you shared, it looks like the picture and video weren't packaged up when you published.  If you select your tutorial that you have shared and select the share button again, there should be an option to Remove Share.  Can you try removing your share and then sharing it again? It could be that for some reason we didn't package up the video and part before we uploaded it to our servers.  If this doesn't work we will have to try some behind the scenes tricks that will tell us where we are having problems.

OK, I think I hit Share too early in the process and then didn't get edited properly.

I went through the process again and I seem to be sitting on Packaging Tutorial (299.5mb) longer than I would expect.

I'll give it a bit longer to see if it has hung up.

JD,

It looks like the share worked.  When I downloaded it I saw the same issue with the graphics flashing.  I have notified our development team and we will be working on this issue to get it resolved quickly.

Thanks,

JD,

It looks like Inventor is having issues with the size of your video file.  Our general rule of thumb when creating these internally is to keep the video to less than 2 minutes a task.  If the video is longer than 2 minutes then we split those up into 2 separate tasks.  We are currently working on fixing this issue so that video size is not as big of a deal but until then this should get you up and running until we can get a fix implemented.

To give you a little bit of background, this tutorial creator was designed to emulate how we were already making tutorials in the past.  These tutorials were designed as short tasks, each task had a part associated with it that was suppose to be where the last Task left off.  So for example if Task 1 taught you how to extrude a box then the file associated with Task 2 would be the box that the user should have created in Task 1.  The purpose of this process was to ensure that the user was never lost.  If they had messed up Task 1 it didn't matter because we loaded a new part for him in Task 2.  So when we were designing this tutorial creator it was really designed and tested for short videos to just take you through a short number of steps (our rule of thumb is 7 or less) to make sure the learner never feels lost or overwhelmed by a lot of steps..

With all that as background I realize that just because that is the way it is designed doesn't mean that is the way you or others will want to use it, so we will definitely be working on fixing this issue as to not keep you from using the tool in the way that you think works best.

Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns.

Thanks,

That was going to be my next test - break up into shorter videos.

I had never looked at the existing tutorials in depth.  I dug deeper into them last night and tried to find differences.

One important thing I ran into is if I clicked on the Delete trash can to remove a video and then added again - when I attempted to publish be original deleted video was still in the *.zip, in fact I did this 4 times and 4 videos were in there.

I found a mistake in my video anyhow and will have to do it over.
