Is this a bug - Inventor 2026

I've ONLY seen this in Inventor 2026 not in any other versions

So here it is

When I highlight a part in an assembly RMB then click OPEN it doesn't open, The same happens when I use the file open icon on the top menu bar inventor shows the part in the relevant project folder BUT just will not open any files in the mine-browser that the file open icon on the top menu bar opens either . If I close then reopen the assembly then highlight then RMB - OPEN works fine same for the selecting file open from the top menu bar

@Paul-Mason I can't reproduce the issue here. If possible, could you please provide the video or dataset for more investigation? In case there is the key thing I miss here. Many thanks!

Hi

Please try this workflow - open assembly, select (LMB) any component, try open another component by RMB (without any other clicks).

@kacper.suchomski 's video was helpful.  For what it's worth, I have seen this behavior as far back as I can remember.  It is annoying, but in my experience, it has been consistent.  When there is a component selection set active, a right click on another component does not change the selection, and the right click menu acts on the selection set, not on the component under the pointer.  It is not intuitive, but it is logical and consistent-- again, in my 23 years of Inventor experience.

I also remember this from many versions. But the author of this discussion mentions that he only sees it in the latest version, which is an interesting point of reference for me. 🤔

@kacper.suchomski I got the behavior here, and it is a very very legacy behavior, and only happens in graphic window. When you have the same workflow in the browser, it will work fine. If the component in graphic window is already selected, the RMC on another component in graphic window will not discard the previous selection, but this will be discarded in the browser. That's the major difference.

@Yijiang.Cai , it is a legacy behavior indeed - personally I feel it most when working inside sketches. Typically when changing dimensions to driven or lines to construction, the object I RMB on do not change but some other do. Very annoying.

But the initial question remains unanswered, do you consider this to be a bug? I.e is this something that should be fixed?
