Is it possible to convert Solidworks Configuration Files to Iparts?

Hi,

I have a solidworks Configuration file I'd like to open in inventor,

Is it possible to open those files, while maintaining the different versions (like an I-part)?

When opening or converting the file Inventor turns the file into a single solid, and it seems I can't open the other variations.

Kind Regards,

Solidworks configurations are all encompassed into one file.  That has its plus's and minus's.  Good that there are less files on the HD, bad because the files are buried and hard to find at time within the mother file.  With that said, Inventor's ipart/iassemblies creates the exact opposite.  When you generate the files from the mother part, it created files into a specific sub-directory on the HD.  So, in answer to your question, there is not a direct method for doing it.  What you are going to have to do is call up each configuration in SW and save it.  Then call up that SW file in Inventor.

Hi! To certain degree, INV iPart is conceptually different than SWX Config. There is a little bit overlap but the two are meant for different purposes. INV iPart is more for creating library content. These parts are well-defined and controlled within the author table and iPart factory. Each member is unique.

SWX Config is more about one part exhibiting different geometric shape in different states or stages. The part is still the same part. I am not an SWX expert but I was told that there could be BOM confusion when SWX Config represents different parts.

Technically, there isn't an equivalent workflow to SWX Config in INV at the moment. We are investigating solutions to enable similar behaviors.

Many thanks!
