I have an assembly (and a lot of sub-assemblies) in which we were given the skid/tank/base to us from the customer in a non-inventor file. During conversion it translated to every single piece was a separate ipt file. They also color coded them as shown in Capture1.jpg. Now the job is done and we are doing the As Built drawings. My Project Manager wants me to change all the ipts to SS material. I can do this by opening each ipt and picking the Solid2/Solid Bodies then changing the material in Tools to SS. Then I have to save it and close it out. That words great but I have to do all this for a lot of separate pieces. See Capture2.jpg and Capture3.jpg.
My question: is there a way to pick these items while still in the main assembly (or sub assembly) and change this property without going in and out of every ipt? I have a lot of representations made for all the drawings created so I can't just change the material in the assembly. I'd still have to go and change them in each representation too. Either way it's a lot of work.
I'm working in Autodesk Inventor Professional 2017.
Any suggestions would be great!
Thank you!
Veronica
In the top level assembly, open the BOM Manager and click on the Parts Only tab. Make sure the Material column is showing, and you should be able to set the material for every component making up the entire assembly. If many of them are the same, you can drag-fill and/or copy and paste.
Hope that makes you life easier!

Hi Veronica,
Is this about changing the appearance of a solid within a part or changing the material type in a part? Inventor only allows one material style to exist within one part file regardless of how many solids are there in the part.
Many thanks!
