Well, I couldn't give you a complete answer, but for what it's worth, Inventor does talk to AutoCAD electrical in its cable and harness environment. You can import AutoCAD electrical diagrams to drive 3D cable and harness models, and export the 3D model into an AutoCAD electrical drawing. You might find that useful or worth looking into if your company does that sort of thing.

yes Inventor "Professional" so you have routed systems modules (with Autocad electrical) is a great way to do electrical panels/schematics/3d layouts,etc...

Since you are dependant on Acad electrical I'd choose Inventor over anything else due to the fact they work together..

Lots of stuff here..

https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/autocad-electrical/getting-started/caas/CloudHelp/cloudhelp/2...

Get a demo of Inventor so you can run through the tutorials and see if it works for your needs.

Talk to your Autocad reseller (VAR) so see what pricing options would be best for you.. Since you have electrical there may be a "deal" on switching to one of the Inventor suites,etc...

Pedi2000,

Who is your reseller? Assuming you have one. If you are using Acad Ele 2016, they should have already been in contact with you about using Inventor 2016 with it if you've expressed interest/need to do 3D design.

The interoperability between Acad Ele and Inventor is one of the biggest upgrades with the 2016 release, I'd highly recommend it. Actually it should be a no-brainer if you already use Acad Ele and want to include 3D.

If you don't have a reseller, contact me directly. I can get you in touch with one and/or get you a demo if you'd like.

I think the best way is to go with opensource Eagle cad - you can have a freeware version. It's for electrical work.  See if it meets your needs.

UMMM....NO

Eagle is a circuit board schematic capture/layout program. Its not intended for anything but designing circuit boards.

It does not do 3d modeling..

And the OP works for a professional company and using the freeware version would be a violation of the license..
