And make sure you hit the "options" button before you press the "save" button and set the units there to the units that your 3d printer is expecting..
export..cad format or "save copy as" (not save as) does the same thing too.. either works..
You can also use the 3d print environment right inside Inventor or print studio that comes with it too I believe to send the file right to your 3d printer..
But I always just do a save copy as..set my units to mm (I model in inches) and then open that right up in the software that came with my 3d printer to allow it to do the slicing and gcode generation to drive the 3d printer..
