Is there a way to prevent the ability to edit the author's name in iProperties?

Hi, as they say, I do not think it's possible. however, you could create a rule that overwrites the author's name, scheduling the event each time you save the document, perform the task.
It would not be an ideal outlet, I do not know what you are looking for, maybe you could explain us better, regards.

I am trying to find a way to prevent students from cheating by downloading
a part file from the internet (or another student) and then changing their
name in iProperties so it now looks like they made the part. Looking to
see if it is possible to lock the author name in iProperties so that it
cannot be changed. Or if there is another way to know who initially made
the part.

I think there was an macro to add hidden 'watermark' in file.

Set that file as template and check if 'watermark' still present after student hand it in.

Then there are other ways to cheat.

You should have come out and said that earlier. There has been at least one thread on teachers trying to prevent cheating. Below is the one I'm aware and it has a few methods listed. Which include checking the unique ID each file has or adding hidden properties to templates for students to use. None of these are full proof but combining a unique ID and checking if features or parameters are exactly the same (from copy/pasting) is about the best way it seems.

Hi Doug,

Author property does not prevent students from cheating. There are techniques to identify cheaters and I am not going to share in public since there are students here. Just tell your student that we have internal tool to find out if a file is copy or a replicate.

Many thanks!
