Inventor reverts back to older saved data after crash

A colleague and I are both having this problem:
1. We work on an existing assembly, changing constraints, view reps, etc.
2. We change some subcomponents, then make changes in the assembly to compensate.
3. We save frequently throughout.
4. Inventor crashes
5. When restarting inventor and reopening, we see errors in the assembly because the changes to subcomponents are still there, but changes to the assembly are gone. The assembly reverts to a save from a previous day, wiping out all the work done between that save and the crash.
When we go to look at the oldversion files in the file manager, there won't be any for the most recent saves. When we look at the "last modified" property of the assembly file, it will show the previous day. The subcomponents will show the expected modified date corresponding to the last time we saved them. It's as if inventor deletes all files for the open assembly between the crash and the previous successful close, even if there are save points between them.
This is frustrating because it seems to us that the only way to get a "true" save on an open document is to restart inventor. Saving the file inside of the application is only provisional because it won't matter in the event of a crash.
Has anyone else experienced this problem or does anyone have a solution?
