Inventor Render CPU Usage

Hi All,

I was producing some new renders of some parts today when I realized that the CPU usage seemed to be capped at ~35% during rendering, whereas in the past, every time I've been rendering my CPU usage has been at 100%. Render times are also noticably slower as a result. Any clues as to why this might be?

I've included a screengrab of a chart of CPU temp, speed and power usage too, which show a quick decline from ~3.5GHz while working in the model, down to ~.7GHz while rendering. The renders I've done in the past have all pushed the CPU to 100% and I can't find any reason why this is happening. i've tried updating inventor, restarting my computer, making sure there aren't any battery saver settings on, etc, etc. Any ideas?image_2022-10-10_130520717.png

Which release do you use?

Can you screenshot App Option>Hardware tab?

I use the latest version of Inventor Professional 2023, on Conservative Graphics settings. The work laptop I've been given certainly isn't as powerful as I'd like it to be, but there's not much I can do about that at the moment.

Update: whatever was causing it to run slow has gone away. Annoying, but I'll take it.

Hi Tom,

Is there a reason why you need to run Inventor on Conservative mode? Does the laptop have a dedicated graphics card? If yes, please make sure Inventor.exe runs on the graphics card instead of the embedded one.

Many thanks!

No dedicated graphics card unfortunately. Should be unrelated though as I haven't changed those settings since original install last year. Additionally, inventor doesn't do GPU rendering so what might the conservative setting have to do with anything?

Hi Tom,

For rendering in Inventor Studio particularly, only GPU is used. But, other graphics operations do leverage GPU. Also, as of Inventor 2023, the Ray Tracing rendering does leverage GPU.

Many thanks!
