When you open Inventor and click on Projects…where is this listing derived from…a file or just history of projects opened in the past?

The shortcuts, used by Inventor to locate the project files, are located c:\Users\<username>\Documents\Inventor.  The actual project file can be most anywhere.

It is simply a folder of Windows shortcuts, in the location specified by Application Options > File > Projects folder.  In my experience, this is populated by opening a project in the Projects dialog.  They can be deleted from the Projects dialog by right clicking and selecting Delete, or by opening the folder in Windows Explorer and deleting the shortcut there.  If the .ipj file no longer exists, Inventor will notify you of that fact and delete the corresponding shortcut.

Hope that helps,

Both of these are partially correct.

As the others have stated, there is a folder of shortcuts that actually controls what is in the list.  The shortcuts are populated in the first place by the history of projects you have opened.
