Inventor Professional 2021 - Cannot save edits to read only files

Hello,

I have created an assembly on Autodesk Inventor Professional 2021 which is currently just save on a file on my desktop. I am trying to edit some of the ipt files associated with this iam assembly and when I make the modifications I am unable to save the changes as I get a warning pop up saying "This file is set to read-only. Try again with a different file name". Saving with a different file name is a problem because when I close the program and reopen it, the assembly only recognizes the original file name, so the changes are lost. How can I rectify this issue?

Just to be clear the files are only saved to my desktop currently and have not been uploaded to the Vault.

Have you looked into Windows File Explorer to see if they are set as read only there?

Perhaps they were copied from another set of files that had read-only checkmarked, or you have some issues getting Windows permissions on the specific folder.

The parts, are they parts that are checked into the vault, but have not been checked out. Perhaps maybe you built a new assembly, but happened to reuse parts that were checked into the vault? Or, are these parts new that you created?

Thanks, I checked this and they were set to read only in the windows properties, so I unchecked the box and applied the changes, however I am still getting the same warning. Could this have anything to do with updates done to my computer that now backs up files to my companies One drive file cloud?

Hi,

As mentioned in the original post, none of the files have been uploaded to the vault. All the files that I am trying to change are files that have been created by myself and saves as .ipt part files in the same desktop folder as the .iam assembly file.

Check the folder/workspace you are working on, as it may have a folder setting of read-only. Similar thread:
