Inventor opening new file behaviour

Hi all,

So I am experiencing weird behaviour from Inventor.

I open Inventor, try starting a new part file but it does not navigate to the window where you select the type of file you'd like to open. It just hang, see below pic.

I have found a work around, I open Inventor, select the project I want to work in. I say OPEN (Instead of new file). I then choose a file to open in the project, once the file is open I then select the NEW button and it brings up the file selection window and I can then start a new ipt.

Any assistance is welcome.

Hi.  What version of Inventor is this?

If you press Alt-Tab keys, does the dialog box show up as being off the screen?

Make sure Inventor is the active application, then try pressing ALT+SPACE, release, then press "M", release again, press keyboard arrow left or right, release, and see if hovering the mouse (not clicking) you are able to bring any prompts back into the display area.

I had this happen with the first release of 2022, with a different prompt.  So, making sure that all updates are installed might also help (if they are not already).  But, I suspect that the suggestion by @Gabriel_Watson is likely to help.  Let us know?

Hi there,

thanks for the reply. I have brought up the window where the prompts have disappeared and tried following your instructions. Unfortunately nothing changed.

I had all the updates installed up to 2022.2 at which point the make components command was not working. I was then advised to go back an update to allow this functionality to work which I did.

If I go back to 2022.2 I will once again lose functionality of make components. Before 2022.2 came out I wasn't having any trouble with the prompts in the new file window.

This may be an issue with a template file being corrupted or unusable.

Try running the Inventor Reset Utility to see if that fixes your problem. Make sure you back up your user configuration and application options before you do this, as it will reset everything.

Thanks for the advice, how do I make a backup of my user configuration and application options?

If you close your Home Screen and go to File\New, does it work from there?

Backup application options: File>Options>Export

Backup user configuration: Right-Click on Ribbon > Customize User Commands > Export

To restore them after using Inventor Reset, follow the same procedure, but select "Import" instead.

Unfortunately that doesn't work either, weird thing that's happening now. The window doesn't even come up. It immediately gets the white bar at the top saying "Not responding"

So I have done the reset, here is a screenshot of where I opened IV for the first time after resetting and the first thing I did was attempt new file, same behaviour.

@el_jefe_de_steak,

So initially after resetting it still did not change, when I imported my settings etc. restarted IV a few times and waited for 20 mins I tried again and it actually worked!

So I will put this down to the IV reset utility fixing the issue.
