Inventor lose IDW file

In all the years that I have used Inventor I have never come across this problem

Her it is, a bit long winded tough

I have an IDW file with, as of now, 29 sheets and growing. They are Part Drawing for a project all in one IDW file. Any how every now and aging after I create a new page and saving the file Inventor totally lose the file with an error message popping up that it is unable to find the file.that I am trying to save to can not be found, now I go into File Explorer navigate to the folder and YES the file is there but when I go back to Inventor it can not see the file in the file open dialog. So I close Inventor down restart it still no file there in the open dialog. Luckily I save after every time I add a new drawing sheet to the file, I have the old version to keep on save set to -1 ALL so at least I can recover the last one minus the recent work, then after a while the whole problem happens again there is NO pattern to how soon or long it happens it's totally random BUT IT HACKING ME OFF

Sorry for the size of the text on the web side off this my eyesight is not too good

Hi Paul,

The behavior is absolutely wrong. Please make sure all critical Windows updates, the latest graphics driver, and the PC vendor critical updates are all installed. Use Windows Disk Cleanup to remove cached files. If you are using Vault 2025, please make sure the latest client and server update is installed. For Inventor 2025, make sure 2025.3 is installed.

If you find a way to reproduce the behavior, please let us know asap.

Many thanks!

Hi Paul,

Another remote possibility is related to how Inventor loads its dll on demand. To speed up the startup process, Inventor.exe loads only the minimum set of dlls on startup. As you open Inventor files, the needed dlls will be loaded on demand (but not unloaded). To override the behavior, there is a way to force Inventor to load all dlls on startup.

Close Inventor and go to Windows Control Panel -> System -> Advanced System Settings -> Environment Variables -> create "DYNAMIC_LOAD_APPLETS" and set it 0.

Restart Inventor. Are you still able to reproduce the defective behavior?

Many thanks!

Thanks for the help Johnson

I'll give your suggestion a try. As i am now finished with that project I don't know when I'll be back to it.

It happened twice after my OP but after that until Monday, when I started the new project, it hasn't happen again I'm hoping, as the  new project will have just as many IDW to be produce that it doesn't happen again
