Inventor keeps crashing

Hello all,

 

I am currently using Inventor 2018 on my laptop for my work. I have an assembly containing about 300 parts who crashes very often. Like 4/5 times a day. With crashing I mean it is not responding, then the screen turns grey and eventually it shuts down.

 

I think it has something to do with interfering constraints, because everytime I try to add a constraint, and it gives an error for interfering constraints, the not-responding crash occurs.

 

Does anyone have a solution for this problem? Or can anyone tell me what the cause of this error is?

 

I am running Windows 10(with all the latest updates) with the following specs:

- 16 GB RAM-memory

- 8GB Video card(NVIDIA GTX 960M)

- INTEL i7 processor

- 256 GB SSD memory

- 1 TB HDD memory

Well.. when working with large assemblies it is good practice to use level of details to cut down on PC load.

 

You state that there are conflicting constraints...the first thing I'd do is fix the conflicting constraints... even if that means deleting all of them entirely and re-constraining everything.

Hi!

 

300 parts is not a big assembly, and the pc specs will support that without much effort.

Therefore, the problem must come from other reason.

 

Check if your assembly has the red cross on. If so, check what its the problem.

First of all, thanks for the quick reply!

 

Currently I am installing Inventor 2019, but i'm afraid this wont fix the problem. After installing I will check the conflicting constraints and if I need to, delete them and re-constrain everything.

During the installing I will read some information about working on level of detail, Inventor always asks for it, but I never really used it.

besides working on level of detail and installing the newest version of Inventor I will also check for the red cross.

Hi Frank,

 

When it crashes, did you submit crash reports? If yes, could you send me an email (johnson.shiue@autodesk.com)? I would like to take a look at your reports and understand the crash better. In the meantime, please make sure graphics driver is up-to-date and all critical Windows updates are installed. Also, .Net 4.6 and later needs to be installed.
