Inventor Install sequence

We are going from Inventor 2017 to 2023, my question is, does the sequence of install matter? With 2017 it was Install Inventor and all its patches/updates, then install Vault.  I have heard 2023 Inventor/Vault install sequence does not matter.

Doesn't matter for Inventor.

It does for Vault.

I don't think you can upgrade from 2017 to 2023.

Talk to your reseller.

We are in the process of upgrading doing the necessary vault version jumps on a new server, reseller is performing the upgrade.

The reason I ask is that IT wants to put the install files (Inventor 2023 and Vault Client 2023) in our software center for employees to download and install themselves rather than perform a deployment.

Hi Mark,

Frederick is right. Either way should be fine, since each Inventor release is like a new product. They don't overwrite any preexisting releases on the same machine.

However, some shared components (.Net, VC redistributable, and others) could have some implication. I personally would install 2017 first and add all the updates. Then install 2023.

Many thanks!

Thank you.   Our IT group is writing a script for our internal software center so users can download and install/overwrite 2017 Inventor and vault with 2023.  I wanted to make sure if users ran the vault install first then the inventor install it would not cause any issues similar to older versions.

Hi Mark,

I am not a Vault expert. But I am not sure how Inventor 2017 would work with Vault 2023. The EDM add-in is version specific. Also the Vault server is version specific. Typically Inventor and Vault releases should be in sync.

Many thanks!

Sorry for the confusion. Let me clarify what I am asking.

In the past installing Inventor 2017 and Vault 2017 on a workstation you would need to install Inventor 2017 Inventor with any/all patches first, and then you would install the vault 2017 client.  Doing the reverse may cause issues.

We are now in the process to upgrade to Inventor 2023 and Vault 2023. Vault 2023 is being installed on a new server and going through the proper "jumps" to get from 2017 to 2023.

Our workstations that have 2017 Inventor and Vault Client 2017 will be getting Inventor 2023 and Vault Client 2023.  We will NOT have both versions 2017 and 2023 existing on the same workstation.

My question is when we install Inventor 2023 and Vault Client 2023, does it matter which we install first Inventor or Vault?

-Mark

I might be wrong here, because I haven't dealt with an install since the new online installation, but I would install Inventor first then Vault.  When you install Vault it should see that Inventor is installed and install the Vault add-in for Inventor at that time.  If you do Vault first you might have to go back and re-install to get the add-in.
