Inventor freeform smoothen / interpolate

Hi,

I'm new to inventor freeform and I'm trying to model an aircraft fuselage at the moment. I'm looking to smoothen the surface highighted in this picture as it is creased.

This form was made with a standard cylinder from the drop down box, but it wont let me subdivide that face so that I cant manually edit that crease. I've tried flatten, and uncrease edges but those dont seem to work either. What is the best way of interpolating a face with adjacent faces, so that I get a smooth surface going around the circumference. Thanks

Regards

Hi! Freeform is best for organic shape and under-constrained geometry. It is because there is no real concept of dimensions and parameters driven by the user. I don't think aircraft fuselage is an organic shape. Some portion may look like organic but for the most part, it should be created by Sweep or maybe Loft. Could you provide an image of what you are trying to model? Forum experts should be able to guide you through the best modeling approach.

Many thanks!

HI Johnson,

I am trying to fit this rough aerofoil to the geometry of the outer lines but I'm having trouble using the edit form tool efficiently. What is the best way of going about this becuase once I start dragiing points and faces too much the mesh becomes distorted or too jagged. Also I need to truncate aprotion of the aerofoil without creating a surface mesh

Hi @Anonymous,

I can help with freeform, but they can not make a plane like that.

Please make surface models with your wishes, as in the German post. Please make surface models at your request, as in the German post, instructions there are also included.

here still an area model as an example (no freeform!) akula-submarine-simulated-with-flow-design

@Anonymous,

please show me a blueprint of your design...

what's that supposed to be?

Hi @S_May

I'm trying to model something like the picture below but Ive been struggling over the past number of weeks. It is a vehicle for the shell eco marathon. Its a 3 wheeled vehicle.

ecomarathon.PNG

Attached also is the progress I have made today but it is not very smooth. I'm unsure whether I should be lofting between cross sections, using inventor free from or some other method entirely. The dimensions dont have to be precise but it does have to be smooth, which is why Im unsure if free form is the best option. Any advice for both the main body and the wheel housings would be greatly appreciated.

@Anonymous interesting project, thanks for sharing.

You could try to utilize Extrude Intersect to create the shape from Sketch1 & 2 then convert to Freeform for easier modeling.

Or multiple Parallel Sketches on the YZ Origin Plane of ellipses/closed loops that taper. Then Loft through a center line.

Another thought would be to utilize Fusion360 for a different set of modeling tools.

It really depends on the parameters set by the vehicle design restrictions.

Hi @Anonymous,

bauen sie die hülle um das fahrrad herum?
ist die konstruktion innen schon fertig?

Do you build the cover around the bike?
is the construction finished inside already?

HI @S_May

The internal design has been finalised, so I am attempting to fit the freeform to a specific aerofoil shape in 2 planes
