Inventor dwg shows .idw in model tree

Hi all. Thanks for looking.

We use a macro to export an idw to dwg formal for archiving. However, on one person's computer here all of the file names in the Model tree show up with the .idw extension visible. Then when they export the file, the file name ends up like this: 85195.idw.dwg. It is actually recognizing that file extension as part of the text of the file name.

He is pulling the same drawing templates as everyone else and is the only one with this problem. Am I missing a setting somewhere??

Thanks!

I had something similar with an old macro I no longer use. It stripped the last 4 characters off of the IDW file (so it removed .idw) and replaced it with something else. But this only worked properly if I had Windows Explorer setup to show file extensions. Not sure if this helps you but have a look at the OS differences between the PC where the macro doesn't work and the others.

My first thought was the same as Brendan's: perhaps it's as simple as his folder view settings in Windows is set to show file extensions and your other user's are not.

Nathan,

Has this macro ever worked on this persons machine?  Is it at all possible that this macro became corrupt on this particular machine?

Are all the system settings the same on the other machines as on this one?

Does this macro not work on other files as well as this one, or is this the only file seeing this issue?

Are these drawing templates on the network and pulling from there?

You were correct! Just a windows setting to 'show file extensions' for known file types. Picture attached.

Thanks!
