Inventor Drawing file for an assembly will not open anymore

I'm updating an assembly file and am trying to open the drawing file to finish the changes within the sheet drawing. Whenever I try to open it, I only get an error warning stating:

"File <Part file path> version x could not be located at the given path nor at <Part file path>"

Once I click OK on the error pop up message, I get another error message stating:

"Error opening a storage in database [File Path]"

Not event the 'Old Versions' of the drawing will open up (same error messages). Any way to fix this? Using Inventor 2022

Are you using Projects or are you using Vault.

Can you Attach the files here?

Hello, 🙂

What happens if you open the drawing file with updates Deferred?  If you are unaware of this functionality, open the drawing file from Inventor open file dialogue, select the drawing file but click Options before clicking the Open button, a little dialogue will show called File Open Options and choose Defer from the dropdown box where Full is shown, you are telling Inventor to open the drawing file without opening the model.  In order to update the drawing from the model, select the drawing in the browser and right click and uncheck Defer Updates.

I hope this helps and good luck.

For some reason the drawing file opened without a problem today. It could have possible been a server issue? Not sure, but that was also the first time I've encountered this problem. Hopefully it doesn't happen again!

@brauchbachL6AAA

Are you in a single project environment, or do you use multiple projects?  Could you have been in a different project at the time?  Look at your projects and see if there are any that say "temp" in them.  This can sometimes happen when opening an Inventor file directly from Windows Explorer.  (used to drive me nuts!)

Perhaps you have tried opening a higher version of Inventor file?
https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/inventor-forum/error-opening-a-storage-in-database-inventor/td-p/7407...

If you have Inventor 2022 and 2023 installed for example, make sure you're opening the file in the version it was saved under or using the later year. Another possibility is if you opened the file from Vault it may have overwritten a corrupted copy you previously had on local disk with a fresh one from Vault that works.

Hi! It sounds like you have Inventor or AutoCAD dwg files. Try deleting those temp files. Does it help? Without seeing the actual files or the error message, it is impossible to tell. Please start a new thread or share the problematic files (dwg, iam, and ipt files) here. The forum experts can help take a look.

Many thanks!

Hey Birib,

I have had this issue for over 5 days, where the assembly is fine and the drawing before opend just right and had no issue. At once to my knowledge opening the drawing took lang time. I mean half an hour just to open it. Beyond that you could not do anything with it. We have colleuges who do not have the expertise to understand a lot with Inventor. Anyway he did changed the file path of the drawing from : Change reference model bottun on the drawing tab. So the Inventor was trying everytime to find a file path which is outside te project path. 0nce you do change it to the write path. It is gone work just fine. If this helps you out, please let us know.
